Internationally acclaimed artist Jeff Koons, a Dover native, is #votingbecause...

It’s one of those questions for which there is no wrong answer:

Why are you voting this November?

Is the answer broad: “Because I want to ensure a better future for my children”?

Or is it specific: “Because I’m concerned about who will nominate the next Supreme Court justice”?

GOP gains in York, but will it matter?

No matter who you plan to vote for, the act of voting is one thing – perhaps THE one thing – all sides can agree on this contentious election season.

That’s why the York Daily Record has joined the USA Today Network in launching the national #votingbecause initiative to encourage voter registration, participation and engagement.

This non-partisan campaign is particularly timely, what with National Voter Registration Day being marked Tuesday and Pennsylvania’s Oct. 11 deadline for registering to vote in the presidential election fast approaching. Partners include Rock the Vote and TurboVote/Democracy Works.

Also partnering are notable sports, entertainment and media figures, who are furthering the political conversation by declaring that they are #votingbecause of what is important to them. Representing the York area in the campaign is artist Jeff Koons (#votingbecause he wants to give direction to the world).

People who matter; Jeff Koons

Check out the gallery at votingbecause.usatoday.com – and don’t be a passive observer. There are tools on the site that let you create your own meme, print your own #votingbecause card and, most importantly for some, register to vote.

For further inspiration, visit the Daily Record’s Elections 2016 page at www.ydr.com/elections-2016/. You’ll find local and regional political coverage, as well as presidential polling trackers, podcasts, interactive features and more.

We are in the midst of a unique and historic presidential campaign. The choice is stark and the stakes are high. Make your voice heard. Engage. Register. Vote.

There is no wrong answer to the question, "Why are you voting this November?" And there is no right answer to the question, "Why are you not voting?"
