Mom put kids in car trunk, Hanover cops say

A Hanover mother has been charged with putting her two children in the trunk of a two-seat sports car and driving the car in the borough, according to charging documents.

Jessica Reger, 29, of the 200 block of Second Avenue, is facing two misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person, documents state.

The driver of the 2002 red Corvette, Ilena Blackburn, 28, has also been charged with recklessly endangering another person. According to online court records, she was sent a summons in the case.

Hanover Borough Police pulled the two women over on July 10 after getting a 911 call from a person who saw someone placing two children in the car's trunk, documents state.

The women started driving at the intersection of Second Avenue and Middle Street around 8:40 p.m. and were pulled over by police in the 200 block of York Street, Hanover Borough Police Chief Chad Martin said.

Since the incident was reported quickly and an officer happened to be near the vehicle's location, Reger and Blackburn were pulled over within five blocks of starting their travels, Martin said.

Police saw Reger's two children, ages 3 and 5, in the trunk, documents state.

Reger was taken to York County Prison in lieu of $2,500 bail.
