Girl, 12, slain during eviction confrontation

York Daily Record

DUNCANNON, Pa. — Authorities say a 12-year-old girl was shot and killed during a confrontation between her father and a state constable serving an eviction order at their central Pennsylvania apartment.

State police allege that the man pointed a rifle at the uniformed constable Monday at the Pfautz Apartments in Penn Township in Perry County about 10 miles northwest of Harrisburg.

Police said the constable drew his .40 caliber weapon and fired once, but the bullet went through the suspect's arm and killed the girl, who was standing behind her father.

Fifty-seven-year-old Donald Meyer, flown to Hershey Medical Center, is charged with aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats, and reckless endangering. A phone listed in his name wasn't working and court documents don't list an attorney who could respond to the charges.
